Your cravings aren't weakness. They're data.
Decode the four cravings that derail most diets14+ swaps that answer the signal instead of burying itZero willpower needed. Fix the cause, the craving stops
You carry fat where you don't want it. You stay small where it matters. You've tried, and nothing stuck, because nobody gave you a system that speaks your body's actual language. This does.
Signal detected
What you feel
An intense pull toward bread, pasta, sugary carbs.
What it means
Your glycogen stores are low and your body needs fuel.

The trap
Crisps and processed chips
Refined carbs with no nutritional value. Spikes blood sugar, crashes it 30 minutes later, and leaves you hungrier than before. The craving comes back twice as strong.
What to actually eat

Banana
Fast-acting glucose and potassium. Replenishes muscle glycogen without bloating. Best around training.
~27g carbs

Pasta
Slow-digesting complex carb that keeps energy stable for hours. Not the enemy. Timing and portion are.
~43g carbs / 100g cooked

White rice
The cleanest carb source. Easy to digest, no gut irritation, pairs with any protein.
~28g carbs · gut-friendly

Sweet potato
Slow-release carb with beta-carotene and fibre. Best for sustained energy without a spike.
~20g carbs · high fibre
The science
When glycogen drops after training or between meals, your brain demands glucose. The craving is real and valid. The mistake is answering it with junk that spikes insulin and crashes you 30 minutes later. Clean carbs end the cycle; processed carbs extend it.
“I eat rice twice a day while cutting. Carbs aren't the problem. The source is.”Akram
Signal detected
What you feel
A need for something sweet: candy, dessert, anything sugary.
What it means
Protein is low and your blood sugar is unstable.

The trap
Cookies and sweet snacks
Zero protein, pure sugar. A 20-minute high, then a crash that makes you crave more sugar. You eat three and feel worse 45 minutes later. Every time.
What to actually eat

Beef jerky
High-protein, portable and satiating. Kills sugar cravings within minutes by stabilising blood glucose.
~30g protein / 100g

Greek yogurt
Slow-digesting casein keeps you full for hours, with a gut-health bonus from live cultures. Add berries if you need sweetness.
~17g protein / 170g

Chicken breast
The leanest complete protein available, with the highest protein-to-calorie ratio of any whole food.
~31g protein / 100g

Eggs
The most bioavailable protein there is. Yolk included. The fat helps absorb fat-soluble vitamins.
~6g protein each
The science
Low protein means unstable blood sugar, and unstable blood sugar makes your brain demand sugar. It's not a willpower problem, it's a protein problem. Fix protein first and the sweet tooth tends to disappear on its own.
“Every client who thought they had a sweet tooth fixed it in two weeks hitting 180g+ protein. It was never sugar they wanted.”Akram
Signal detected
What you feel
A specific pull toward chocolate, and nothing else satisfies.
What it means
Magnesium is low, depleted by training and stress.

The trap
Milk chocolate and candy bars
Mostly sugar and dairy with almost no magnesium. You feel satisfied for ten minutes and the craving returns, because you never addressed the actual deficiency.
What to actually eat

Dark chocolate
70%+ cacao is a legitimate magnesium source, plus flavonoids that improve blood flow and reduce cortisol. Here, the craving IS the answer.
64mg magnesium / oz

Spinach
The highest magnesium content of any leafy green, plus iron and folate. Add it to every meal while cutting.
157mg magnesium / cooked cup
The science
Training burns magnesium fast, and most men are chronically low without knowing it. Cacao is one of the richest sources. Your body knows this. Low magnesium wrecks sleep and raises cortisol, and both work against fat loss.
“Two squares of 85% after training. Not a treat, a tool. Your body isn't asking for sugar, it's asking for magnesium.”Akram
Signal detected
What you feel
A need for crisps, crunchy salty snacks, anything salted.
What it means
Electrolytes are down: sodium, potassium or chloride.

The trap
Crisps and processed chips
Synthetic sodium, seed oils and MSG. Triggers dopamine without addressing the electrolyte deficit, so you finish the bag and still feel it an hour later.
What to actually eat

Pickles
Natural sodium and electrolytes from fermentation, at nearly zero calories. Athletes use the brine alone to stop cramp.
~5 cal · natural electrolytes

Beef jerky
Sodium and high protein in one hit. Answers the craving while feeding muscle. Portable, no prep.
sodium + 30g protein

Himalayan pink salt
Trace minerals including magnesium, potassium and calcium. A pinch in your water replaces what a session took.
add to water
The science
Sweat strips sodium, potassium and chloride. When electrolytes crash you get cramp, brain fog and low energy, and water without minerals barely helps. You crave salt because salt is what moves hydration into your cells. That's physiology, not weakness.
“A pinch of Himalayan salt in the first glass of water every morning. Stop fearing salt. Fear the wrong source.”Akram
Your body always speaks in cravings. You just have to speak its language.
